Foundation Subjects

At Felmore, we have created a bespoke curriculum based on the National Curriculum and the needs of our pupils. We believe it is important that children have high aspirations and so our lessons talk specifically about potential careers and ways to apply what they have learnt. Each subject has a clear map of progression to ensure previous learning is revisitied and built upon.

For History, Geography, Art, Design Technology and PSHE we draw upon Kapow as a scheme and adapt it to ensure it reflects the needs of Felmore pupils. This includes ensuring the learning is interactive and pupils are challenged to discover and answer questions for themselves - becoming independent learners with enquiring and inquisitive minds.

Discovery RE is Felmore's scheme of work for Religious Education which helps develop critical thinking and enhance children’s spiritual development. It is detailed medium term planning for Key Stages 1 and 2, with full planning for the Foundation Stage. The 4 –part planning model takes children on a learning journey from their own world to a world of religion and belief, learning about aspects of that religion in order to offer answers to a big enquiry question, and then closes with an opportunity to express their own opinions and learning.

Computing is taught throughout all key stages, including EYFS, where it is delivered via  PurpleMash. These resources offer detailed lesson plans as well as the adaptable resources that ensure each lesson is engaging and effective.

At Felmore, we draw upon the Get Set for PE curriculum. We use it to create a bespoke curriculum which matches our vision and targeted outcomes. It allows us to confidently teach the Early Learning Goals, KS1 and KS2 National Curriculum objectives, whilst feeling proud of offering our children a motivating and memorable journey beyond just these standards.

We follow the Kapow PSHE and RSE programme, which covers all the statutory requirements for Relationships and Health Education set by the Department for Education. It also meets the National Curriculum requirement to teach PSHE, which all schools must provide. Our programme goes beyond the basic requirements by also referring to the PSHE Association's Programme of Study, recommended by the Department for Education.

Lessons are organised into five key areas:

  1. Family and Relationships
  2. Health and Wellbeing
  3. Safety and the Changing Body
  4. Citizenship
  5. Economic Wellbeing

These topics are revisited in each year group, allowing pupils to build on what they have already learned and see how their learning fits into a bigger picture.

This approach helps make sure pupils' learning is connected and supports their personal development over time.

Music is taught using Charanga as a basis for learning. The curriculum prepares children for future learning. Every year group presents a performance to parents over the course of the year and many children enjoy the extra-curricular music opportunities offered by the choir.

At Felmore, children in KS2 are taught French using the Language Angels curriculum. Language Angels is an indispensable resource, revolutionising the way foreign languages are taught. It offers comprehensive curriculum guidance, interactive teaching materials, and continuous professional development, all designed to empower teachers and benefit learners across the primary phase.

Details of the curriculum and what is taught in each year group can be found within the information for individual year groups.
