Year 5s Brilliant and Bamboozling Blog (Amethyst and Moonstone)
Hello and welcome back to an exciting new school year.
We will have a new learning focus based on our new curriculum – Dimensions. Our learning will be cross curricular and theme based. Our first theme is ‘A World of Bright Ideas’ and it has a key element of communication.
Please find attached our What I Should Know (WhISK) sheet; on here you will find what our learning will be focused on.
Our homework will be based on key skills and the WhISK sheet.
- Read every day - this can be a book from home, school or online; fiction or non-fiction. Remember to record this in your reading diary each day also!
- Use a range of techniques, including spellingframe.co.uk to help you to learn the spellings for each week. (We are currently using year 4 spelling words at the moment to try and catch up. See the attached file)
- Practise the 9 times tables. Make sure you know them off by heart and can answer questions even if they aren't in order (e.g. 6x9, 2x9, 11x9). Don’t forget your divisions also (how many nines are there in 54?)
- Use the WhISK sheet to broaden your understanding of ‘A World of Bright Ideas’. You could make a poster to show some inventions. You could write an explanation text about how these inventions work, or even get inventing yourself!
