Hello and welcome to an exciting new school year.
We will have a new learning focus based on our new curriculum – Dimensions. Our learning will be cross curricular and theme based. Our first theme is Happy to Be Me and has a key element related to communication.
Our weekly themes will be:-
Who am I?
We will be learning about ourselves by painting self-portraits, thinking about the characteristics and features that make me, me and naming our friends.
Eyes and Ears
Focuses on the senses of sight and hearing. We will be thinking about what it may be like to be blind and deaf.
Fingers, Toesies, Mouths & Noses
Focuses on the senses of touch, taste and smell. Using our hands and feet, balancing, food and our senses, animals and their noses.
Similarities and Differences
Focuses on the ways in which we are all the same/ different, physical appearances, uniqueness, abilities and talents.
Who’s In My Family?
Focuses on family groups, family roles, living together, playing together, family trees and family photos.
Focuses on the groups and communities we belong to, teamwork, uniforms, logos, what connects us and welcoming newcomers.
This will be your homework for 7 weeks
Fine motor skills – can you practice your scissor skills, if you have tweezers can use them to see how many pieces of pasta you can put into a dish in 1 minute? How many pegs can you put around a container in 1 minute?
Practice writing your name.
Count forwards and backwards 1-10.
Read and share books from home with your child, talk about the characters, who they are and what they do. Can they draw a picture of their favourite storybook character?
Stand outside and close your eyes how many different sounds can you hear?
Try a new food.
Think about who is in your family, who are the important people to you, can you take a photo of them?
