Hello and welcome to EYFS.    Our learning throughout the year will be themed based across all the Early Years Areas of Learning - Communication and Language, Personal, Social and Emotional Development, Literacy, Mathematics, Understanding the World and Expressive Arts and Design.

We are explorers -

Explorers are Experimental, Curious, Confident and Co-operative

This term we have moved onto our new culture theme Come Fly with me Asia .

Please see core knowledge below this is what your children will be learning about for the next six weeks.

Way back when...

During this theme we will be focusing on a historical theme. We will be looking at the history of hats. How hats are used in society.

Please encourage the children to talk about things in the past, identify how some things have changed and some things are still the same. Encourage them to use the correct vocabulary.

Week one

Our learning focus will be linked to learning how some things have changed over time. We sorted images of hats into commonly used/uncommonly used - nowadays, in the past. We learnt a new song - Where did you get that hat? We decorated hats for our display and we used hats during our role play activities.

Week two

Remote Learning

To Twenty and beyond

Our next focus will last for three weeks, consolidating our understanding of building numbers, identifying numbers and exploring number.

We are working through phase four of Bug Club.

During this phase, children will not learn any new letters or sounds - the focus now will be consolidating and improving their knowledge, while introducing trickier words with increased vocabulary.

We are continuing to progress through the different phases; recapping on phase two and phase three.  Remember to use you pure sounds when saying them.  We have been using the sounds to help us blend words to support our reading.  Alongside that we have been learning some tricky words (those that we cannot sound out and just have to know) the words are I, no, go, to, the, into, her, me, be, you.  Can you spot these words in your books?

Alongside our learning the phonemes we are learning to form them correctly and how we use them for spelling.

Tricky words

Please could you draw a picture of a special hat. You can write a sentence and label it. Remember to use a capital letter at the beginning of your sentence, finger spaces and a full stop.

E.G My hat is orange with feathers.

We have started to focus on numbers beyond ten. Can you get the children to write their numbers up to 20? Please play the snakes and ladders game at home, who will win?

Continue to listen/share the reading book sent home, encourage the children to talk about what they are reading, do they like the story? Can they identify any digraphs, trigraphs or tricky words within any other text?
